What are the Symptoms of Sleep Apnea?

Untreated sleep apnea is associated with a number of health risks, so it is important to consult your healthcare practitioner if you experience any of the following signs and symptoms:

How to Detect and Diagnose Sleep Apnea

Screening Questionnaire

By asking questions about your sleep schedule and sleep habits, a screening questionnaire done by a healthcare practitioner will give an accurate indication of the probability of sleep apnea.

Comprehensive Sleep Study

A comprehensive home or hospital-based sleep study test will identify sleep apnea. With the sleep study test, sensors are placed on your body to record your sleeping pattern. These sensors measure various parameters of what happens to your body during sleep.

Home-based Sleep Study

A home-based sleep study will accurately qualify and quantify obstructive sleep apnea, but will not always identify other sleep disorders or medical conditions.

Steps to Get Tested for Sleep Apnea

Step 1: Obtain a referral form from your healthcare practitioner. You can download a form here for your healthcare practitioner to complete.

Step 2: Please fax or email the referral. Medical aid authorisation is obtained for the night of the sleep study. If you cannot make the appointment, please notify us at least 24 hours before the scheduled time of the sleep study.

Step 3: A qualified technician will meet you at our rooms or hospital to explain the process and to set up the equipment.

Step 4: Please return the equipment the following morning. If you are in hospital, the technician will collect the equipment. The data will be downloaded and verified.

Step 5: Mysleep maintains a prestigious network of sleep clinicians and physicians to review and interpret the test data received.

Step 6: The final report will be e-mailed or faxed to your healthcare practitioner immediately after the data has been interpreted.

Step 7: Based on the report, your healthcare practitioner can then decide on the recommended treatment.
